Takashi Murakami’s exhibition at Qatar Museums Authority (QMA) in Doha immersed visitors in a fictional universe. A myriad of inflatable, sculpted, and painted works all depict the artist as a character in a supernatural world of his own making. The exhibition logo was developed as a hybrid of sub-cultural reference and hyper-reality. The typeface incorporates both soft edges—the inflatable—and square edges—the sci-fi. The desired impact is cartoonish, yet powerful. A sense of Arabic script within the typeface celebrates the occasion of the artist’s first solo exhibition in the Middle East.
