Fabien MÃ©relleâ€™s exhibition at Edouard Malingue Gallery in Hong Kong featured a series of intricate ink and watercolor drawings as well as a public installation that brought to real life scale MÃ©relleâ€™s fantastical elephant drawing â€œPentateuqueâ€ (2012). Bi-lingual texts are interspersed throughout. The typographic treatment references calligraphy in the tradition of scroll paintings. The influence of narrative structures the essay treatment. It is a nod to the novel form. Paper transitions reflect the contrasting materiality of the works.
