In 1975, Christopher Wool went to see an exhibition by a young painter that has stayed with him for more than forty years: that exhibition was David Reed’s first solo show at Susan Caldwell on West Broadway.

This book features color plates of works originally exhibited in 1975 at Susan Caldwell Gallery. Along with plates from that seminal exhibition, installation images, related paintings, performances, and film images appear as well as cultural ephemera throughout the book in the form of a visual essay. The industrial, raw and bold type treatment and layout creates a feeling of 1970’s New York art scene and culture.
